The days of buying Ghibli Museum tickets from a Lawson convenience store has changed. Buying tickets from Lawson seem to be over for now. In effect, Lawson convenience stores in Japan are no longer selling Ghibli Museum tickets through their Loppi machines. However, the Loppi machines still sell tickets for the Ghibli park in Nagoya.
There has been no official announcement to why but one assumption is that people are illegally reselling tickets for a higher markup.
If you want to get tickets for the Mitaka, Tokyo Ghibli park, you can get them online and for cheap direct from the Ghibli site.
If you are already in Japan, the site linked above will help. You will need a Japanese Sim card for your reservation to go smoothly.
If you are not yet in Japan, see this link but there is usually a queue of hundreds. It may take several hours to get a ticket through the Ghibli international site. Even then, you can get rejected. To increase the chances of getting tickets, try to use as many browsers and devices to get in queue. 🙂
